How to Read Guitar Tabs

One of the most exciting parts of learning how to play guitar is being able to play your favorite songs. Most beginners, when they start out, dream of being able to shred their favorite songs by their favorite bands. While the ultimate goal should be to learn how to read music, the best way for beginners to learn songs quickly is to learn how to read guitar tabs.

Guitar tablature is very similar to sheet music, only you don't necessarily have to know the notes and values of traditional sheet music to read tablature. One of the biggest differences there is between sheet music and tabs is that sheet music has only five lines, while guitar tabs have six lines, each representing a string on the guitar.

Reading Guitar Tabs: Step 1 - Learning the Strings

One of the first things you'll need to know in order to learn how to read guitar tabs is how the strings (the six lines) are arranged in the tablature. The high E (thinnest string) will be the very top line, followed by the B string, the G string, the D string, the A string, and finally the very bottom string will be the low E.

Step 2- Learning the Frets

The next step in learning how to read guitar tabs is to learn what all the numbers mean that are on the various lines (strings) of the tablature.

The numbers located on the lines represent frets on your guitar. Frets are the spaces between the little metal bars on the fingerboard of your guitar. If there is a number 5 on the line that represents the low E string, this means you press the low E string down on the fifth fret and play that note. If there is a 0 on the line, this means you play that particular string open.

Step 3 - Learning the Symbols

It's also extremely important when learning how to read guitar tabs that you know what the symbols on the lines represent. If there is an "x" on the line, that means that string isn't played at all.

Sometimes when a particular guitar chord is tabbed out, there will be a few strings with the "x" on it in between some of the notes of the chord. This means that those strings are not to be played as part of the chord. If you see a "b", this means the note bends; if you see an "r", it means to release the bend. If you see an "h", this stands for hammer-on, and if you see a "p", this stands for pull-off. "PM" stands for palm mute, and "t" stands for tap. If you see a "/", this is indicating a slide. (Consult your favorite "how to play guitar" guide for detailed explanations of how to play what those symbols are indicating. Check out my favorite list of resources right below this article!)

Learning how to read guitar tabs is one of the most crucial skills a beginner can learn. Once you've acquired this valuable skill, you'll be able to start learning some of your favorite songs, and your practice time will become a whole lot more fun. Learning how to read guitar tabs will put the wind in your sails as you endeavor to become a true guitar hero.

Have fun!

Tips For Avoiding Xbox 360 Overheating Problems

The Xbox 360 is an awesome piece of gaming technology and it is no wonder that millions of units have been sold around the world, however the consoles have not been without their problems. The most infamous of these problems being the 'dreaded red ring of death' so named by the gaming community because of the usually green operational lights on the front of the unit turn red which can indicate a hardware failure.

Thousands upon thousands of the consoles have suffered from this failure and it seems that the number one cause is the consoles lack of ability to dissipate built up heat from the processing units. It is thought that the basic design of the unit may be to blame or that the heat sinks that are designed to aid in the removing of this heat are not large enough, either way this is a recognized problem and there is a couple of things you can do to avoid these overheating issues.

The first thing to do is to never operate the Xbox while it is in a confined space like inside a cupboard or tv unit. The console needs a good supply of fresh air from all angles and the cooler the better. Placing the console on an upturned box in the centre of the room is thought to be the best position to allow cool air to reach the cooling vents on all sides. Placing the unit on a carpeted floor is also not a good idea for the same reasons.

The next tip is a little bit crazy, but if you can avoid playing your console for hours at a time this will also prolong it's error free life. I know, try telling that to someone that is halfway through their favorite game and it would be like telling them to cut their left arm off! Seriously though if you can limit you're playing time in any one sitting to an hour or so with a couple of hours break in between you stand a better chance at never having an overheating problem with your Xbox.

If you are one of the unlucky ones that have a console that has already suffered from the red light error there is no need to stress, there is plenty of help available and it doesn't have to mean that your playing days are over. There are a number of self-help resources available that make fixing your overheated console yourself an absolute breeze. With so many of these consoles having been affected by overheating the repair procedures available have been proven time and time again to be an effective way of fixing this problem for good.

Creative Things You Can Do With Your Nintendo Wii Other Than Playing Video Games

The number one reason why people buy a Nintendo Wii is so that they can play various video games on it. However, there are many different things you can do with this home gaming console that go well beyond that. If you have one or you are considering buying one then you should know about them. That way you can get the most benefit from the money you invest in this particular product.

Probably the most useful thing you can do with it instead of playing video games is to access the internet. You can use the Wiimote to do this or you can invest in a keyboard that plugs into the USB port. While you are on the Internet Channel you can create your own games. Once you have created them you can play them on the gaming console. This can be great fun. It can also be a way for children to be very proud of themselves when their family is enjoying a game that they created.

Each Nintendo Wii comes with a sixteen digit code. This is what you will share with others who you want to join games with online. It is a very safe way for people of all ages to do so. You aren't exchanging personal information that can let someone know who you are or where you live. That sixteen digit number is attached to your gaming console and not to anything about the owner or where it is located at.

You can also watch various movies and TV programs that are found on the internet. That includes videos from sites including YouTube. Some people have even been able to get music from iTunes to be streamed through their Wii. This isn't something that Nintendo set up but that consumers have figured out on their own. If you are interested you can likely find the step by step directions for it online.

Many users of the Wii want to have their customized Mii just perfect. So you can spend a great deal of time creating and modifying them until you are very satisfied with the outcome. Nintendo even offers some contests where you can enter yours against other peoples. Looking at the entries can help you come up with some great ideas for your own Mii as well.

You can also use your Wii to help you get into shape. There are plenty of interactive games now where you can get your body moving. Most of them are sports related including track, basketball, and boxing. You can also do strength training and yoga to help you get your body in shape. You will be having so much fun playing these games though that you will forget you are actually getting a workout at the same time.

There are many things you can do with your Nintendo Wii instead of playing video games. While you will definitely want to do that at times there is so much more to it. The future gaming console will also have the ability to offer playing DVD's and Blu-Ray. This means you can use it to watch movies as well. That is a great way to relax and you won't need the space for those types of players anymore either.

Most people will agree that just for a home gaming console the Nintendo Wii is very affordable. However, when they find out all the additional features it offers they really can't believe the low cost of it. If you are only using your Nintendo Wii right now to play video games on then you are really missing out.

Anything you need help with you can find out about online. If you can't get the information from other Wii users then contact customer support. As long as the feature you are attempting to access is one that Nintendo has designated and approved they will be able to assist you.
